I'm on MormonHub forums!

I’m very excited! Recently, I decided to find better places to hang out online. I stopped going to BMR and moved onto the IMDB forums but they basically have the same kind of coarse language and trolling that happens on the other site. Except instead of role-playing it is all movie themed. I’m feeling overwhelmed by contention lately; just on Youtube, in the news, in conversations online. Even Steven Crowder does not seem like his usual even-handed self lately. I figured church is something I’ve become extremely interested in lately, why not surround myself with others who share my interests?

MormonHub forums was the first thing that came up on google for “lds discussion forums” and I really like it! And it’s not just LDS members there either but people of different faiths involved in conversations from all over the world. It is so different from other places that I have been to, people coming together across the divide that belief can sometimes create. Even differences of opinion are handled so much nicer; “heated” for MormonHub seems to be “I guess we’re just going to have to disagree on this and I still respect you a lot.” I don’t know how genuine that is but from what I’ve seen, the comradery in other discussion topics, it seems to hold up. It’s like hanging out with people from church outside of church!

And there are discussions about everything, from movies, anime, books, current events, all the way up to gospel doctrine and personal affairs. It’s a really great community! My favorite section is the Book of Mormon Scripture Reading. One of the admins started a thread for each chapter and verse of the Book of Mormon with the scripture right at the top and quotes about them from study guides and such to help start discussions and conversations about the scriptures. Isn’t that neat? I’ve started awakening a passion for the scriptures and study in myself lately and I like reading quotes or explanations that help me delve deeper in understanding or change my perspective. Conversations with other members can help that too.

One thing to remember, it can feel a bit like truth when you get to talking with others about doctrine but it is always good to pray about it and make sure you’re getting good info. These are people just like you and me, with and without callings in the church. They’re learning and going through their own trials and can be led astray just as easily as you can. I only say that because sometimes when people discuss things or share, it can feel a bit like they're coming from a place of authority or knowing but they might not be. It’s good to have a policy of prayer about it, to keep Heavenly Father’s hand in it but honestly, I just like being in a community that supports the same values that I do, wherein I can learn and share with others.

If you’d like to find me on there and join the conversation, my name is “a mustard seed.” Feel free to sign up and hang out with me!

Nevermind. Please see my update on this entry in Forum Search on this blog. Thank you!
